Western Victoria Boating Coastal Action Plan

The Western Victoria Boating Coastal Action Plan (CAP) was launched by Michael Crutchfield, former Parliamentary Secretary for the Environment and Water at Torquay on Monday 1st November 2010. Click here for the Parliamentary Secretary's media release.

The Boating CAP provides the strategic framework to guide the provision of improved and more sustainable boating facilities across the Western coastal region which extends from Breamlea (near Torquay) in the east to the South Australian border in the west.

The Boating CAP was developed in accordance with the Coastal Management Act 1995 and implements key policies and actions of the Victorian Coastal Strategy (2008). Importantly, the Boating CAP ensures that the State's west coast now has a coordinated strategic plan with which to approach the provision, maintenance and management of recreational boating infrastructure.

This CAP completes the framework of Boating CAPs across Victoria's three coastal regions. The next steps will involve progressing the implementation of the Boating CAP.

Developing the Boating CAP involved extensive community consultation. In late 2008 an Existing Conditions and Issues Paper was developed, which sought to establish the status of boating facilities and issues in the region. This was followed by a Draft CAP in August 2009. Both involved meetings and workshops in all municipalities in the region.
