Industry has long
recognised the value of formal risk assessment as a tool to aid objective
decision making. Formal risk assessment is designed to identify, then
rank hazards by a combination of likelihood and severity.

Assessment for the Western Coastal Board
An ecological risk
assessment of the marine environment was undertaken for the Western
Coastal Board in August 2004. A workshop format was used to provide
an opportunity for stakeholders to voice their opinions on natural attributes
of value and perceived threats to those values.
